Current employed MLA's who have not completed their MLA entry to practice exam
MLAs who are currently employed and who have not completed the MLA entry-to-practice exam (excluding those hired as MLA in training) will be eligible for licensure under a “grandfather clause.” These employees do not need to upgrade their qualifications, provided they have been practicing in Nova Scotia equal to or greater than three years (including full time, part time, and casual). After May 03 2025, only those meeting the required education will be registered.
Limitations: You will be licensed to practice in your current MLA role and will not be able to change your role. If you leave or retire from a grandfathered MLA position, you are eligible to return to your grandfathered position within a six month period. After 6 months you will be required to obtain the required education prior to being reinstated to practice.
Note: All NEW employees as of May 3 2025 will be required to successfully complete an MLA program and the CSMLS or MLPAO entry to practice exam.
