Nova Scotia Regulator of Medical Laboratory Sciences

Find a MLT/MLA/CLXT

In protecting the public, NSRMLS takes the issue of falsely representing or practising without a license seriously. The protected title of MLT/MLA/CLXT should not be used at any time unless they are registered and licensed with NSRMLS.

"Active" means licensed to actively engage in the practice of medical laboratory technology in Nova Scotia as a medical laboratory technologist (MLT), medical laboratory assistant (MLA) or combined laboratory and xray technologists (CLXT) and has met the requirements under the NSRMLS act and regulations to practice.

"Provisional" means a license issued to applicants who have conditions and restrictions on their practice imposed by NSRMLS to ensure public safety according to the act, regulations and policies.

Candidate”  means an applicant who is a student in a recognized medical laboratory assistant, medical laboratory technologist or combined laboratory and xray technologist program may be granted a conditional registration and licensing pursuant to subsections 13(4) and 14(4) of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Regulations and section 43 of the general regulations. The applicant must practice within an approved limited scope and meet the requirements as outlined in policy. In addition to the title corresponding to their category of licensing, the applicant must use the title “candidate.

”"Non-Practising" are applicants registered, but are not practising and are not authorized to perform laboratory testing.
