MLA/MLT or CLXT Student Employment
A medical laboratory assistant (MLA), medical laboratory technologist (MLT) or combined laboraotry and xray technologist (CLXT) may only work in Nova Scotia if they are licensed with NSCMLT.
To apply for licensure as a student with NSCMLT, an individual must be enrolled in an accredited program or be awaiting the results of a MLA or MLT prior learning assessment or their entry to practice exam. Additionally, the applicant must work under direct supervision.
The following documents are required.
- Copy of an official letter from an accredited program confirming enrolment OR transcript
- Proof of Professional Liability Insurance of $2,000,000
- Proposed employer's intent to hire letter
- Completed Acknowledgement of Supervision form
- Evidence of NSCMLT English language requirements (refer to the English Language Proficiency policy)
- Canadian government issued photo identification (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, proof of landed immigrant resident status, or copy of a valid work permit)
- Copy of criminal records check (CRC)/ vulnerable sector check (VSC)
Please Remember:
You cannot work in Nova Scotia until you have received notice from NSCMLT that your application has been approved.
