The LIS Coordinator works collaboratively with the Section Managers, Director, Lab Medical and Technical staff to plan, implement and control the Lab Information Systems for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Develops procedures/policies in relation to the LIS (MOX, PCI) and provides input into IWK policies related to electronic information
•Evaluates information management developments in relation to LIS needs
•Establishes training objectives/standards and co-ordinates training to ensure staff and other learners achieve competency
•Co-ordinates information management needs related to studies/research
•Liaises with other Health Centre staff to meet clinical reporting requirements
•Liaises with Section Managers to prioritize and meet LIS department needs
•Assures integrity of patient data and protects confidentiality
•Acts on feedback from users of laboratory services to validate and improve service delivery
•Consults with vendors as required on technical issues for LIS systems
•Trouble shoots software and hardware issues to ensure system performance
Hours of Work
0830-1630, Monday-Friday, 7.5 hour shifts
•General Registered Technologist (CSMLS) required.
•Valid NSCMLT licence required.
•Post secondary education in computer science preferred.
•Minimum five (5) years experience in a laboratory required.
•Advanced general computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
•Advanced knowledge of LIS modules: Shared, LAB, BBK, MIC & PTH and SMS.
•Knowledge of report writing tool and ability to design reports and search modules to retrieve clinical & statistical data by location, care area or program.
•Excellent time management, organization and problem solving skills.
•Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
•Demonstrates ability to develop and sustain internal/external partnerships.
•Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to family centred care.
•Experience in all lab disciplines within scope of service to be managed, is preferred.
•Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.
