Educational Grant Program and Applications
There are two types of Educational Grants available from the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) to support and promote professional development for NSCMLT members. The Professional Practice Committee (PP) designates a portion of the annual budget for these educational grants that is approved by the NSCMLT Board.
Collaborative Grant
Is awarded to NSCMLT members that promote the profession through educational activities related to the field of Medical Laboratory Science for NSCMLT members.
Guidelines
- Available to NSCMLT members and member's organizations in Nova Scotia who promote the profession through educational activities related to the field of medical laboratory science for NSCMLT members up to $1,000
- Applications will be considered for activities that will be complete in the calendar year that funding is being requested.
- There is no deadline for submission
- Funding will be granted for educational resources, catering for educational symposium and venue's for educational symposium or other activities determined by the NSCMLT PP Committee
- A completed application form must be submitted before the designated deadline.
- Recipient of Collaborative Grant agrees to complete an evaluation of the event to determine if objectives were met.
- Recipient agrees to submit an article in the "Under the Scope" newsletter that summarizes their event or education.
- Applicants may only be considered for one grant per year
- Those that have received a grant within the past 3 years will only be considered if all the grant funds are not awarded to other applicants.
- All decisions are final. If an application is rejected it will not be reconsidered for future disbursements in the same calendar year.
Eligibility Requirements
- a detailed budget shall accompany the application for funding the event for requests over $1000.
- the event shall be open to all active practising NSCMLT members within the requesting organization.
- Education Days/Symposiums/Conferences shall be open to all NSCMLT members in Nova Scotia with equal registration fees for all participants.
- an event coordinator shall be identified as the event contact.
- the event shall have the organization’s management approval.

- Workshops
- setting up Educational Programs
- Online learning programs- Webinars, courses for groups.
- Teleconferences for groups
- other events may be eligible upon review by the NSCMLT PP Committee.

The Professional Development (PD) Grant
The PD Grant is awarded to NSCMLT members in their pursuit of education in Medical Laboratory Science and/or expand their scope of practice.
Guidelines
- up to $900.
- Applications will be considered for activities that start in the calendar year that funding is requested. Payment will be issued when the course is successfully completed.
- The deadline for application submissions is May 1 annually.
- Funding will be granted based on criteria determined by the NSCMLT PP Committee.
- Recipient agrees to submit an article in the "Under the Scope" newsletter that summarizes their event or education.
- Applicants may only be considered for one grant per year.
- Those that have received a grant within the past 3 years will only be considered if all the grant funds are not awarded to other applicants.

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a NSCMLT member in good standing.
- Reimbursement of fees for courses and activities must be supported with appropriate documentation of successful completion and proof of payment.
Eligible Professional Development Activities
- Educational activities related to the field of medical laboratory science (MLS)
- Bachelor Degree program courses for Health Leadership/Administration
- Master’s Degree program courses for Health Leadership/Administration
- Canadian Healthcare Association Leadership Courses
- MLS workshops, webinars, setting up educational programs and other courses the NSCMLT PPC committee deems appropriate
